We're excited to welcome Rachel Kupillas of ElevenTwentyEight from Cambridge to the Flea this Sunday! Rachel redesigns vintage and used clothing into these gorgeous and modern, wearable styles. She also collects vintage pieces that have stood the test of time and are still fabulous just how they are. Rachel likes that shopping vintage/redesigned not only allows you to have one of a kind pieces but also helps out the environment. She told us, "I love the care and design that went into clothes and jewelry back in the day. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is amazing. I like that chances are you won't see anyone else wearing what you're wearing. Also, not buying anything new and all the environmental issues that can cause." (We're with you on that, girl!) Rachel said she loves meeting and talking with people at a flea market who share her passion for vintage. We're sure Rachel will have no problem finding homes for the items that she loves and seeing people excited about their finds! Catch Rachel and ElevenTwentyEight this Sunday only, July 14th!
Kyla Coburn's signature interiors can be found in some of the city's sleekest spots--Loie Fuller, Broadway Bistro, The Avery, and most recently--and amazingly upcycled and architecturally salvaged--The Grange. "I love getting the psychology of a space and contributing the environment that serves up the tastes and sounds. Certain objects and art call out to be a part of a completed space and making that match is inspiring," Kyla told us. What does she do with that which doesn't make a match--one-of-a-kind finds, spoils of the restaurant design wars, picks of the pickers and hoarded beauty of all kinds? Why bring it to The Flea, of course! And Kyla's favorite thing about flea markets? "Mmmmmm...like a religion, an addiction, and a lover all in one harmless Sunday afternoon." We couldn't have said it better. Catch Kyla and her magic red truck of curiosities again at The Providence Flea on June 30, July 14 and 28, and August 11 and 25.
When Providence's Emily D'Ambra was about 8 years old she asked her mom, "Why don't adults do something they love as a job, then they will never be upset about going to work?" Her mom replied, "That is the dream Emily..." Now Emily is living that dream as the owner of Vintage Accessories by Emily. "I whole-heartedly love what I do," she says, "and I believe it shows in my work." She designs and handcrafts every piece in her collection, bringing a warm, vintage feel to modern earrings, necklaces and rings. This hometown gal is excited to grow her business with the Providence Flea. "There's no place better, in my mind, than to sell my jewelry where I grew up.. Providence!" We agree!
Meet Emily at The Providence Flea on June 16 and 30; July 14 and 28; August 18 and 25.
If you've been down to The Flea already, you've seen Jim McCarthy's green reCYCLEmobile nestled between the food trucks. If you haven't, you're missing something green,... and green! Vintage Bikes RI renews vintage and unique bicycles, giving them a second life on the road! Jim recognizes that the rescue, repair, restoration and reuse of vintage bikes have value on may levels. He told us, "Our mission is to promote the art of fixing things in place of the disposable mentality so prevalent in the world today." Vintage bikes can be affordable, ride-able and semi-collectible at prices less than new bikes built to similar standards. You might not find your wheels for the Tour de France, but you can peddle these babies for the fun and the fresh air! Catch Vintage Bikes RI and their big green truck parked at the curb most Sundays this summer!
